Today I worked on an Angular app that fetches a list of smart devices, subscribes to their state via web sockets, does some computation on the devices' state, sorts them, and displays them on a dashboard.
I learned it is not always a good idea to run computation in the browser's main thread, and that we can now just offload them in their own background threads... Yup! Multi-threading on a browser app.

In this blog, I go through what web workers are and how to use them in Angular.

## What are Web Workers
The [Web Workers API](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Web_Workers_API) is a feature of modern browsers which enables running scripts in a background thread separate from the browser's main thread, keeping it free to focus on updating your web app's UI and making your application smooth and responsive.

Web Workers are now supported in [all major browsers](https://caniuse.com/webworkers) except Opera Mini, which is mostly used on feature phones with limited processing power.
